Day 2 of 366
January 2, 2012
Rappler comes from the root words rap (to discuss) and ripple (to make waves).
It’s been a couple of days since we released our first plug on YouTube, and a couple of days before we formally launch - but we’re already living up to our name.
Today Rappler.com made waves after a story that was published on our website caused quite a steer. The University of Sto Tomas, which prides itself as the “cradle of higher education” in the country reacted to our story by criticizing online journalism and questioned whether online journalists should be given the same treatment as traditional journalists. As expected it emotions flared on social media. Plenty of people came online and had lots to say.
Suffice to say it was a busy day at the office. As early as 9am, when I came in, it was already buzzing with energy. And it buzzed and buzzed till day’s end. I believe it’s that energy that will fuel us towards the change that we all aspire for. -
